Gloria Campos-Leader for Minority Women and Advocate for Children

Last week at the TML (Texas Municipal League) conference I had the pleasure of listening to Gloria Campos speak on the importance of women in governance and political discourse. To those of you who don’t know Gloria Campos she was the inspirational face of women in the news in the DFW area at a time when there were hardly any women in the news, much less minority women. She used her public platform to change the lives of children through the program called “Wednesday’s Child” that each week featured a child in desperate need of a loving home. She spoke eloquently and passionately about her vision that every child be “wanted, happy, and loved in a caring home.”
The legal system unfortunately often fails children who are abused or forgotten or in need of special care. Our cobbled system of foster homes and adoption centers is without a doubt one of the areas where justice is often not served. It makes me sad that the victims of this failure are the ones with the least ability to be heard, children. Gloria Campos is a truly inspiration crusader showing how one women can make such a huge difference in the lives of so many that would not have been so lucky had it not been for her.
